California Cavern

Discovered in 1850, Cave City Cave was one of the first registered caverns in California, and was the first commercial cave in the state. A hotel was built in 1853 to house the many visitors to the cavern. Several types of tours are offered today, including those which use rafts to explore the subterranean lakes and rivers.
There are several tours availble:
Trail of Lights walk tour
This guided tour is suitable for the whole family. The tour is approximately one hour long. It is a fairly flat well lighted path, lead by a professional guide.
Trail of Lakes walk tour
This walking tour is suitable for the whole family and covers part of the Trail of Lights tour. The tour takes is offered during the wet season when the cave is at its most picturesque.
Mammoth Cave Expedition
A three hour tour where the group explores the historic Mammoth Cave area and Jungle Room. It involves walking and crawling through natural passages that connect through thirteen chambers. This trip is perfect for those who desire something more than a walk, but less difficult than the Middle Earth Expedition.
5 hour Middle Earth Expedition
A five hour tour, where the group explores approximately 80% of the cavern system from the east entrance to the western most exit. The tour is about a mile long, so stamina is required! It consist of walking and crawling through the historic "Mammoth Cave" area, then groups pass through the "Middle Earth" area which was discovered in 1980.
