Amador City is most noted for its gold mining history, it has several historic buildings from the Gold Rush era that now house unique shops, restaurants, and Bed & Breakfast Inns. Located in the heart of the Mother Lode, this quaint and peaceful town offers visitors a wide variety of tourism and shopping options.

The Sutter Gold Mine, with below ground tours, is only located just outside town. Activities in the area also include Daffodil Hill, the Amador Flower Farm, hiking, biking, and fishing.

Amador City is noted for its gold mining history and has several historic. Its authentic original buildings now house unique shops, restaurants, and Bed & Breakfast Inns. The Amador Hotel has a rich history with many uses, including the town hall, a drug store and doctor's office. The Imperial Hotel burned down during the fire of 1878. Careful restoration has returned the building to its original use.

The Fleehart building was built in the early 1860s, next door the Schaffer's Diggins building is one of the most photographed buildings in town. The Keystone was the city's most famous and productive mine, reaching a depth of 2,600 feet it produced about $24 million in gold.

Gold outcroppings had been prospected on both sides of "Amadore Creek", upstream several hundred yards from downtown. The "Original" or "Little" Amador and the Spring Hill Mine were Amador County's first gold mines.

The Sutter Gold Mine offers a one hour journey underground in a real hard rock quartz mine. You put on a hard hat and board the shuttle to learn about the history of gold.
